Second Annual Awards Event a Rousing Success More than 500 people from across the five-county region were on hand to celebrate the recipients of the
2007 Envision Central Texas Community Stewardship Awards Friday, May 18 at the Hilton Austin. The five Community
Stewardship Award recipients included: New Development - MacMora
Cottages; Redevelopment - rehabilitation of historic buildings in San
Marcos; Pioneer - Dell Children's Hospital of Central Texas; Public
Planning and Policy - 2006 City of Austin Bond Program; and Raising
Public Awareness - Discovering the Colorado: A Vision for the
Austin-Bastrop River Corridor. The keynote speaker for the luncheon was William H. Hudnut, III,
Urban Land Institute Senior Fellow, author, television commentator,
clergyman and former four-term mayor of Indianapolis. The Challenge of Climate Change On June 4, ECT hosted a special presentation for regional leaders by Austin Mayor Will Wynn, about the critical challenge of climate change and Austin's Climate Protection Program. Mayor Wynn articulated the profound impact, both global and local, that climate change will have and the steps that Austin has taken to address this challenge. Building Connections  ECT continues to foster dialogue among a diverse array of citizens in order to raise awareness about the region's Vision and find ways to shape growth that ensures our region's future livability. Several events recently have focused on building connections with individuals in the development community and exploring the intersection of ideas, issues and interests related to future growth and development in Central Texas. One such event was a mixer with board members from both Envision Central Texas and the Real Estate Council of Austin. Board and Committee Additions at ECT Five new directors have been elected to the Envision Central Texas Board. They are Valarie Bristol, external affairs director, Austin Philanthropy Office of The Nature Conservancy; Councilmember Rufus Honeycutt, City of Round Rock; Sherri Kuhl, manager environmental leadership, Lower Colorado River Authority; Richard Maier, land manager at D.R. Horton, representing the Homebuilders Association of Greater Austin; and, Vanessa Sarria, (pictured at right) executive director of the Community Action Network. Valarie Bristol will join Hays County Commissioner Karen Ford as co-chair of the ECT Open Space Committee. Also, Elgin City Manager Jeff Coffee will join John Langmore, John Langmore Consulting, as co-chair of the ECT Transportation and Land Use Committee. |
