| New Highway Brings Opportunities and Challenges : SH 130 Corridor Summit Set for November 19 |
 |
|
Envision Central Texas, in partnership with the
Greater Austin-San Antonio Corridor Council, will host
a public SH 130 Corridor Summit for all SH 130
Corridor stakeholders on Saturday, November 19
from
8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Texas Disposal Systems
Exotic Game Ranch and Pavilion in Creedmoor.
With State Highway 130 set to open in 2007, Central
Texas has an unprecedented opportunity to shape its
future. The type of development that occurs along
SH 130 will determine how thousands of people live,
work and travel for generations. As you are probably
aware, the Greater Austin-San Antonio Corridor
Council has been involved with the development of
SH 130 since its inception. More recently, Envision
Central Texas has been working to address how
Central Texas is going to accommodate another
million people over the next 20-40 years while at the
same time preserving and enhancing our quality of
life, natural resources, and economic prosperity. The
leadership of these two organizations believes that
thoughtful development along SH 130 is critical to
addressing these goals.

Everyone On Board for TODs: Public-Private Collaboration Puts Land Use on Right Track |
|

The following article by Frederick R. Steiner
and John Langmore, co-chairmen,
Envision Central Texas Transportation and Land Use
Integration Committee, is reprinted with permission
from the September - October Issue of
Austin Business District Magazine.
When
Central Texans talk about “planning”
and “transportation” and “land use,” they’re really
talking about choices - choices for living, working,
shopping, and playing in a healthy region.
People want that region to be a place where they
can choose to live in a great neighborhood,
irrespective of income, age or cultural background.
They want meaningful transportation choices that
include walking, cycling, taking a bus or a train, and
driving their own vehicles. And they want our region
to be a place where they can work close to home, do
their shopping in their own neighborhood, and truly
enjoy all the amenities Austin and all of Central Texas
have to offer.
