An online newsletter from Envision Central Texas
April 2009
Even in tough economic times, we've got a lot to celebrate in Central Texas. Through the hard work of dedicated and visionary people and organizations, our region continues to be one of the most attractive and vibrant in the nation. In fact, the Austin - Round Rock MSA was the nation's second fastest growing metro area between 2007 and 2008, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. ECT continues to work across the region and across boundaries to wrestle with tough choices today to ensure a thriving and sustainable future. Read on to learn more about the important work underway and opportunities for you to get involved.

ECT Corporate Council kicks off with LCRA General Manager Tom Mason

masonOn April 6, Envision Central Texas kicked off a series of informal "Corporate Council" breakfasts with key regional leaders for its supporters from the business community. Featured speaker for the first event was the Lower Colorado River Authority's General Manager Tom Mason who discussed the key challenges facing the region in water and energy. Mason noted that climate changes are expected ccgroupto create larger floods and longer droughts in the coming years. He cited the current drought and said that last year saw the lowest inflow for the Highland Lakes since levels were first recorded in 1942. He predicted that the top three ways to secure additional water for the future was through conservation, desalinization and reuse. To read more click here.
